Funding

NHS Funded Nursing Care

As from April 2004 all nursing residents are entitled to funding for the cost of the professional nursing element of the care provided. The Government has defined the available funding into the following three bands:

Level Current Funding
High: £139 per week
Medium: £87.00 per week
Low: £45.00 per week

The level of funding is determined by an assessment of the resident, which is carried out by an independent nurse (It is then reviewed on a regular basis). The first assessment may be done by a nurse on the hospital ward, but there may be a follow up assessment done by the Primary Care Trust (PCT) appointed Nurse. It is this assessment that determines what funding will be provided by the PCT.
In Leicestershire the PCT do not make the payment directly to the Home providing the care. Instead the payment is made to Social Services who then pay the Home.
If you are a self-funding resident we will deduct this funding from your invoice once the level of funding has been confirmed by the PCT.
If the level of funding changes, following any future assessments, the self-funding figure will also change. Our fees remain fixed according to the room and care. They will only change through a general fee review, or if the residents level of care or room is changed.

Social Services Funding

If a residents funds are below the required level, they are eligible to Social Services funding. The level will depend on the residents needs and their own financial situation. It will be assessed by a Social Worker.
Once an assessment has been done, the Social Worker will inform the Resident how much they are able to contribute towards the fees - This contribution will include any State Pension that the Resident is currently receiving.
If the Resident requires Nursing Care, in addition to the Social Services funding, they are also entitled to the Nursing Care Contribution. The level of funding available will be assessed by the PCT Nurse who will then liaise with the Residents Social Worker.
When the funding available does not meet our fees for providing the care, then a Third Party Contribution will be required (The resident is not allowed by law to pay this contribution). Depending on the Social Services involved this will either be directly invoiced by us, or invoiced and collected by Social Services and then paid to the Home.

Continuing Care

In a small number of cases continuing care can be obtained, in these circumstances, if all the criterion are met then the local PCT will pay the full weekly fees.
